Holiday Sing-a-Long Program

Holiday Sing-a-Long Program 400+ precious children gathered in a standing – room – only Fitness Center for a fabulous Holiday Sing-a-Long Program on the last day of school today. This is my eleventh year teaching music in the Lower School, and I think this year’s program was the best ever – not because I did it, but because of how everything fell together… the part you can’t practice, plan or predict. Today’s Holiday Sing-a-Long was one of those priceless moments we have as music teachers. I thought I would share the program just in case anyone is looking for ideas for next year. It’s fun to share! We had great audience participation during “The 12 Days of Christmas.” Take a look at this little clip. Holiday Sing-a-Long Program Details Part 1 – Opening: “We Will Jingle” by Paul and Teresa Jennings “December in Our Town” by Roger Emmerson “Season of Bells” by Paul and Teresa Jennings “We Need a Little Christmas”  (Led by our Broadway Kids ensemble) Part 2 – PreK “I Have Big Raisin Eyes” “Mamma’s Little Baby Loves Cookin’” “Spin a Little Dreydl” by Paul and Teresa Jennings Part 3 – Kindergarten – 2nd grade Sing-a-long “Feliz Navid”  (from “America’s 25 Favorite Christmas Songs for Kids” – split track) “Jingle Bells with Descant” (Audience sang melody and 3rd-4th sang the descant)   “Rudolph The Red -Nosed Reindeer” (parents sang the regular words, children added funny words 2nd time) from America’s 25 Part 4 – Audience participation led by 3rd and 4th graders  “The 12 Days of Christmas”  (Led by the Broadway Kids ensemble , parents did the motions in groups) “Over the River” by Paul and Teresa Jennings “Must Be Santa” – Verses led by soloists with dancing “Santa” Part 5 – Carols “Away In a Manger” – guitar solo “Silent Night” – Kindergarten solo vs 1, all sing vs 2 (from “America’s 25 Favorite Christmas Songs for Kids” – split track) “Little Drummer Boy” – arranged by Don Marsh Part 6 – Ending “Winter Wonderland” – Karaoke version in the style of Amy Grant – While a group of soloists led the singing, students came down into audience and “shagged’ with parents during the interlude. This was huge and very cool! “Deck the Halls/ We Wish You a Merry Christmas” – by Paul and Teresa Jennings Students held up giant signs of the first word in each line. Christmas Jokes In between each part of the program, there were groups of 4th graders who introduced the next song by telling Christmas jokes. It was all student-led and ended. The jokes the children came up with were very funny and were the perfect touch to an elementary age program. Q.What did the grape say to the peanut butter? A. – ’tis the season to be jelly!”   Knock, knock (Who’s there?) Hanna. (Hanna who?) Hanna partridge in a pear tree! (Led right in to the “12 Days of Christmas”) Here are a few pictures from the Holiday Sing-a-Long Program. This is what was going on on the stage during “The 12 Days of Christmas.” The Broadway Kids Ensemble is an after-school class that meets once each week. Check out these fabulous divas! Here is a short clip of our PreK Gingerbread kids singing, “Momma’s Little Baby” I hope your Christmas is happy and healthy.  Cherie
